Supporting Professional Recognition, Registration, Classification and Compliance

THPASA provides practitioner registration support services through its Central Membership Services (CMS), assisting applicants and members throughout the professional membership lifecycle, from initial application through classification, designation, registration, renewal, progression, and verification.

The Association seeks to ensure that all membership and practitioner registration processes are fair, transparent, auditable, and aligned with the Constitution, governance instruments, ethical standards, and public protection objectives.


What We Support

THPASA provides assistance with:

New Membership Applications

Support for applicants seeking:

  • Student Membership (THP(S));
  • Professional Membership (L1–L10);
  • Associate Membership;
  • Affiliate Membership;
  • Institutional Membership.

Professional Classification

Support relating to:

  • Membership category placement;
  • Professional level allocation;
  • Designation eligibility;
  • Professional progression pathways;
  • Classification reviews.

Professional progression does not occur automatically and requires assessment, verification, ethical compliance, and CPD compliance.


Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

THPASA recognises that many practitioners possess extensive traditional knowledge, experience, mentorship histories, and community standing that may not always be reflected through conventional educational pathways.

RPL assessments may be utilised to evaluate:

  • Prior experience;
  • Traditional training;
  • Professional competency;
  • Community recognition;
  • Practice history;
  • Portfolio evidence.

Three-Level Verification & Assessment Process

All membership applications are processed through the THPASA Three-Level Vetting and Assessment Framework.

Level 1

Administrative Intake & Compliance Verification

This stage includes:

  • Identity verification;
  • Documentation review;
  • Application completeness checks;
  • POPIA compliance;
  • Financial compliance verification.

Level 2

Professional Vetting & Competency Assessment

This stage may include:

  • Lineage verification;
  • Mentor or Gobela verification;
  • Community verification;
  • Competency assessment;
  • Scope-of-practice assessment;
  • Ethical review;
  • Public protection assessment.

Level 3

Executive Verification & Registration Approval

The final stage includes:

  • Registration authorisation;
  • Practitioner code approval;
  • Designation authorisation;
  • Registry activation;
  • Certification approval.

Practitioner Codes & Registration Activation

Following successful approval, practitioners may receive:

  • A unique membership number;
  • Practitioner code;
  • Membership category status;
  • Professional designation authorisation.

Registration activation occurs only after final approval, financial clearance, designation authorisation, registry entry, and implementation processing.


Verification Services

THPASA may provide verification relating to:

  • Membership status;
  • Professional designation;
  • Good standing status;
  • Professional classification;
  • Practitioner code validation.

Good standing requires active membership, current fees, CPD compliance, and the absence of restrictions or suspension.


Certification & Professional Documentation

Eligible members may request:

  • Membership certificates;
  • Annual confirmation certificates;
  • Practitioner cards;
  • Verification letters;
  • Digital verification credentials;
  • Admission confirmations.

Appeals & Reviews

Applicants and members may request reviews or appeals relating to:

  • Application refusals;
  • Classification decisions;
  • Designation decisions;
  • Restrictions;
  • Registration decisions.

Appeals must be submitted in writing and will be processed in accordance with applicable governance procedures.
